Biking Adventure on the Death Road in the Yungas: Two Unforgettable Experiences
First Trip: An Adventure with Friends
A few years ago, my four friends and I decided to embark on an adventure we’d been planning for a long time: biking down the famous Death Road in the Yungas. This route, known for its breathtaking views and dangerous reputation, offered us an experience full of adrenaline and natural beauty.
The Ride
We set off from La Paz early in the morning, filled with excitement and a bit of nervousness. We chose the agency Barracuda, located at Calle Linares #947, La Paz, Bolivia. Before starting the ride, we performed a ritual called “challando” to honor Pachamama (Mother Earth), asking for protection and safe travels. The road, with its narrow paths and sharp turns, kept us on our toes the entire time. As we descended, the change in climate and vegetation was remarkable: we moved from the cold altitude of the Andes to the warm, humid jungle of the Yungas.
Rest in the Yungas
Upon reaching the Yungas, we took a break to rest and enjoy the surroundings. The waterfalls and lush, green landscape were the perfect setting to relax after the exhausting but rewarding ride. After a short stay, we prepared to head back to La Paz the same day, satisfied and full of stories to tell.
Second Trip: New Year’s Celebration at Hotel Rio Selva Yungas
Years later, I decided to return to the Yungas, this time with Osvaldo and other friends. On this occasion, our main goal wasn’t to bike down the Death Road but to celebrate New Year’s Eve at the luxurious Hotel Rio Selva Yungas.
